A Man Walks Into A Bar ...

Thursday I wrapped up most of the Live Shows calendar early enough to catch Margot & The Nuclear So & So's at Circus. I didn't take my camera, but I will say I'm liking the new line-up/material. The previous 2-3 times I've seen Margo the band seemed to be trying too hard. Maybe it was rougher around the edges this time, but it came off much more natural and honest to me.

Friday, after a pre-B-day happy hour for a friend, I hitched a ride up to Cafe Bourbon Street for the Guinea Worms release show. Yep, after all these years, I think this is the Guinea Worms first "real" full length record (i.e. not a homemade CDR or 7"). Ironically the local label CDR did put it out. Doubly ironic, it's a double LP on vinyl. Sorry, once again I had no camera.

Saturday, after a stop at the Dube with some other show-goers, I got to Ravari Room in time to see Bicentennial Bear's (above) final few songs. Maybe it's because singer/guitarist Billy Peake is now also in Pretty Mighty Mighty and PMM was on the original bill, but I could hear a tiny bit of PMM in Bicentennial Bear. Of course it's probably mostly due to Bicentennial Bear recently adding a viola in the mix. Truth is, the first time Jon Chinn of PMM played me some recordings he was mixing for Billy's previous band, Miranda Sound, I thought it was PMM.

Josh Kayser and the RazOrs took the stage next. They're already well-represented in the Ear Shot Galleries so I took no pictures or videos.

The main and last event of the night was the Evil Queens (above) first show since September 2008. While I could let myself hear signs of them having not been playing for the last year and a half, it all rocked just as much as I remember. And truthfully, it looked like the members were having one of their most fun shows. I think they're happy to be back.

Midpoint Music Fest Registration Begins

In its 9th year, Cincinnati's MidPoint Music Festival will feature 300 or so indie bands from around the city, state, country and maybe even the world. 15,000 people are expected t attend this year's events. 150 of the bands will be booked through SonicBids. The registration deadline is May 14, 2010. The main event is September 23-25, 2010.

Friday i went to Skully's for the SoHud (South of Hudson) Showcase. I took a few pictures of the openers Max Power Trio (above) and the Led Zeppelin tribute finale (below).

Saturday, for the first time in over a year I saw Ease The Medic (above) and the inside of Bernie's. Chris Cope (below) opened the show.

After Ease the Medic I walked down to Skully's for Mt. Carmel and George Elliot Underground. Sorry, I collected no photographic evidence there.

Sunday I bussed to the North Market for the all ages Columbus Music Co-op/Relay Recording Local Music Compilation CD release show. The yellow of the room was a bit overwhelming at times and the light from the windows gave most of the photos a saturated ethereal quality, but here we go.

The young (high school?) Jordan Martin (above) and band opened the show. Time & Temperature (below) followed, which honestly was my biggest reason fo going. I'm glad someone finally got her music to CD and a larger audience.

Next Sean & Dan of Bookmobile did a stripped down set. I just missed getting soem pictures of their last tune. Oh well, I've seen, captured and raved about Bookmobile a lot here. Last was Flotation Walls (below) doing an acoustic set. Talk about overwhelming yellow!
