Wednesday I went to The Summit for The Entrance Band, Brainbow, and Lights. Yeah, I pretty much love Brainbow (below). I was looking forward to Lights more than the The Entrance Band. The few Lights recordings I heard sounded pretty good and intriguing. On the other hand, all but one Entrance Band recording I had heard seemed like tried and tired late 60's garage psychedelia.
Live it all reversed. Lights started off quite poppy and cheesy then went serious and a capela. I guess both songs could be called novelty. From there there wasn't anything too special and I stopped paying attention for the most part.
The Entrance Band ended being the intriguing band after all. I could do without most of the vocal, and sometimes the guitar playing was a little too noodle-y, jammy and aimless. But the rhythm section was solid. it reminded me a bit of locals Pretty Weapons who kinda combined me of the bluesier early/mid 70's Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath.
Friday, after an extended 2-3 phase happy hour at the new thai place, Basil, I made it to Skully's for RJD2. Sorry, it was too crowded for me to even want try to get close to the stage, let alone take pictures. I will say thanks to some DoneWaiting staffers for getting me and a couple friends on the guest list. Oh, and thanks to whoever or whatever meant my tab was waived a the end of the night. RJD2 live and a few drinks only cost me an easy tip.
Saturday I bussed up to Rumba for the Lydia Loveless CD release show. I got there durung Todd May's (above) set. I never paid much attention to Todd's most well-known/respected band, the Lilybandits, back in the day. But these days I am paying attention. There's some strong tasteful alt country, americana and midwest rock going one here. SOme might compare them to the Replacements, but not being much of a Replacements band, I usually avoid that comparison for bands I like ... but I can't deny it being there either.
I caught a bit of Micah from Two Cow Garage, but truth is my ear was bent and distracted during his second song until half-way through his last song. Somewhere in the middle it went from him solo to Todd May's band backing him.
Lydia Loveless (above) was on next. I often say Lydia is a young local country crooner wise beyond her years, be it booze, brawls or boys. I think the is was the first time I'd seen here with anything more than her dad on drums backing her. The band tightened up her sound musically, but her vocals & lyrics were a little buried and less of the star of the show than they usually are.

This past week's Local Pop Radio Hour features 5 songs from Lydia Loveless who celebrated a new CD this past Saturday. There's some nonsense about someone having peaches poured on his. I'm betting that's Peach District related, but I guess I'll have to listen to be sure.

It's been a while since I've called out some other ways to get yer Cringe fix. Most of these I/Cringe have been using for some time. Foursquare is the newest addition. I try to check-in to Foursquare every time I'm at a show, bar or restaurant. I'm even "the mayor" at a couple places.

A couple months ago a drunken band member tipped me off that there was a reunion of three of my favorite bands in the works. The show is upon us. Mortimur, Go Evol Shiki and Audion are all reuniting Friday January 29 at Carabar.
Mortimur includes members of current favorites, Brainbow (above).
Almost all members of Go Evol Shiki (above) were/are in Church of the Red Museum.
Both members of Audion (above) were also in Cinema Eye and one is in Moon High these days.
