Video of the Week - Pretty Mighty Mighty
Topic: Film/Video         Category: For Tuesday
Posted by: cringe on Jul 08, 2008

In honor of Noel Sayre, this week's video is Pretty Mighty Mighty's "Sleepless" from their enhanced CD/EP Normal.

PMM is tied with Pica Huss as my favorite local band. The first band Website I ever hosted was Pretty Mighty Mighty's. The only band CD for which I put up money to make sure it got pressed was PMM's Normal. Derailleur Records (PMM, Bob City, Grafton, Templeton, Velveteens, The Bygones, and Flipping Hades) and the Cringe.com compilation series would very likely not have existed without PMM.

I road tripped to see PMM more than any other band. In turn Noel and I and a few other friends roadtripped to Chicago together to see Tom Wait's many years ago. With Tom Waits in town a couple weeks ago that trip and Noel were in my mind and conversation regularly.

Thursday was a sleepless night for me; I stayed up all night listening to all my PMM recordings. I realized only 3 artists have more space on my iPod than PMM - Beethoven (all his symphonies), Tchaikovsky (all his ballets) and John Coltrane (the Impulse years and various other recordings). Pretty good company there.

UPDATE: Noel Sayre Passes After Near Drowning
Topic: Band/Artist         Category: For Tuesday
Posted by: cringe on Jul 02, 2008

I just got a call from a long time friend of Noel Sayre's. The violinist for The Black Swans and Pretty Mighty Mighty was rescued from nearly drowning in Portsmouth, Ohio Tuesday evening, but remains in very critical condition. A few more details can be found here.

Send some good thoughts to Noel, his family and his friends.

Comfest Wrap-Up
Topic: Festival         Category: For Tuesday
Posted by: cringe on Jul 01, 2008

Many thanks to Donewaiting, PatRadio and all our friends who volunteered at the Comfest band merch booth. We sold about $3300 in band merchandise over the weekend. Only a couple items became victims of the rain, and someone still bought one of those.

I took no pictures or videos at Comfest. I either forgot my camera or just wanted to use my time away from the merch booth to take it all in first hand. Lots of others have pics up on flickr. Here's one of our new fancy Band Merch sign and its maker, Joel A.:

I'll be doing the final accounting and double checking this week. Those who had merch at the table should expect phone, email, Facebook and/or MySpace messages with return info starting this weekend. I usually go in alphabetical order and it can take week or so to get through them all.

Video of the Week - Ukulele Man
Topic: Film/Video         Category: For Tuesday
Posted by: cringe on Jun 17, 2008

This week's video is actually Ukulele Man's submission to a pet pooper scooper jingle contest. No, REALLY! He used it as a learning experience for his new video camera, but made the cut. You can vote for Ukulele Man (i.e. Contestant #1) or others through July 15.
